Our Crazy Darla

I think I've mentioned this a time or seven before, but our dog is full of funny quirks.  I just love her.

One thing she does that's NOT so lovable (although still kind of funny) is hog the front seat of the vehicle anytime we are traveling with her.  She starts off innocently enough in the back seat.  For whatever reason, she despises the back seat, so immediately she'll put on her most forlorn, pathetic, droopy-eyed face to show her loving parents just how miserable she is without us.  She'll position herself on the very edge of the back seat, directly between the two front seats so that at the slightest tap of the brakes, she can launch herself into the front seat.  Dan and I usually try to lean toward one another, our shoulders blocking any attempt of Darla's to gain a front-seat advantage.

When she realizes she won't be able to make it over our shoulders and that her desperate attempts to secure a position in my lap are being thwarted, she will pull a stunt like this:

She puts her front legs up on the front passenger seat, while her back legs are still on the back seat.

"Uh, mom?  Hey mom.  Think you could scootch over a tad and let me up there?"

"No, Darla, honey.  Not right now.  Go lie down in your bed.  Lie down, Darla."

Darla is persistent.  Very persistent.  And although not known for her patience, she bides her time until the precise second I lean forward or Dan leans over, and she does this:

(Look how thrilled Dan is.  Ha!)

All the way until she is securely nestled in my lap in the front seat.

And, if that weren't enough, she has the audacity to take it one step further:

What a peculiar dog we have.

  1. Karley attempts the same move some times. Luckly, it's easier to block out her 60 lb boudy from the small gap between the front seats. Darla seems a bit more wiry and ellusive.
